Wen-guang Zhang (Beijing)

  He was born in Tongxu County, Henan in 1915;present member of State Physical Culture and Sports Commission; vice chairmanof Chinese Wushu Association; member of the Chinese People’s PoliticalConsultative Conference of Beijing; professor of Wushu, Beijing University ofPhysical Education and director of its Wushu Teaching and Research Section;famous martial artist, wrestler and educator of China.

  Atage10 he began to study Wushu following master Zhenfang Chang. In 1933 he wasadmitted to Nanning Centre Gallery of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts,focusing on Wushu and wrestling. He is not only good at long and short weapons,but also traditional Chinese boxing such as bagua, taiji,form-and –will, etc.,but also wrestling, sanshou, fencing. During this period he got guidance from alot of Wushu masters such as Bonian Huang, Rongqiao Jiaang, Junshan Wu, YuyanMa, etc., and formed his own unique style.

  In 1934 he got lightweight champion ofWrestling Public Competition.In 1935 he entered Traditional Chinese BoxingTeam. He once taught in Shanghai Sport College, Tianjin National Sport Collegeand have pupils everywhere at home and abroad. In recent years he has beenresponsible for establishing Wushu rules and judgment laws, and has publishedmany books on Wushu.

  In 2006 he was awarded “Top Ten WushuEducators” and in 2007 “Top 100 Wushu Extraordinaire”.
