Wen-Ching Wu (USA)

Master Wu is one of the mostaccomplished martial artists and teacher in the United States. In 1990, hecompeted in the United States National Chinese Martial Arts Competition wherehe was awarded the all-around Grand Champion awards in Internal and ExternalStyles. During this competition, he competed in eight events and was rankedfirst in all eight categories.

   In 1991 he founded The Way of the Dragon –School for Health, Healing, and Martial Arts in Rhode Island, USA. In 1998 hewas awarded three Gold Medals at the Fourth Shanghai International WushuFestival/Competition for Liuhe Bafa, Xingyiquan, and Sparring Set. In the sameyear, he was also included in the book, China's Contemporary Wushu Masters. In2007 he was awarded an Eighth Degree Black Belt in Wushu Sanshou Dao.

  Master Wu was born in Taiwan, China in 1964. In 1976 his familyimmigrated to Liberia, West Africa. He came to United States in 1983 to attendNortheastern University where he graduated with honors in 1988 with a degree inMechanical Engineering. Since 1991, he has focused his efforts on learning,writing about, and teaching Chinese martial arts. He has presented workshops inInternal Style, External Style, and Qigong throughout the U.S. and Europe wherethey were very well received by the participants. Master Wu has been featuredon many TV programs about Tai Chi, Qigong, and Chinese martial arts. To date,he has authored and co-authored twenty books and videos including: Tai ChiBeginning, 24 and 48 Posture Tai Chi Chuan, Emei Baguazhang, QigongEmpowerment, Kung Fu Elements, Sword Imperatives, Xiaoyaoshuai, and Tai ChiSingle Fan. In addition to continuing his teaching and writing, he is also theAdministrator and Vice Chairman of the International Wushu Sanshou Dao (IWSD)Association.

  Master Wu is an official disciple of Grandmaster Liang, Shou-Yu fromwhom he mastered Emei Wushu, Tai Chi Chuan, Xingyiquan, Baguazhang, Liuhe Bafa;Hard and Soft Qigong; and Taoist and Buddhist cultivation methods. He is alsothe Yizi, adopted son, of Professor Wang, Ju-Rong, and Professor Wu, Cheng-De.From Professors Wang and Wu he learned Tai Chi, Qigong, and many aspects ofTraditional Chinese Medicine.

   Theyears Master Wu spent in Africa, of schooling and training with teachers andclassmates from over thirty different cultures, provided him with uniqueinsights and perspectives of various cultures and people. His college years andhis engineering career provided him with the incredible ability to gather andorganize information, research, and teach. His personal achievements combinedwith his extensive life experiences and insights have helped to shape him intoan exceptional and unique writer, martial artist, and teacher.

With his teachers as his guides, Master Wu keeps learningthe essence of more styles of Wushu. He stays firm in his convictions by notallowing his current achievements to be an obstacle to greater learning andadvancement. He remains humble, and continues to learn while teaching, with theunderstanding that teaching and learning is a mutual growth experience.
